The Hazard of inferior LED lighting products

Here are some of the hazards that can be caused by LED lighting products and hence we should be very careful when using them. According to the2015 statistical data obtained by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, it showed that a total of 1400 residential fires caused by lighting have been reported leading to death of about 10 people since 2012. The number of fires caused by lighting between year 2010 to 2012 were 1900. The fact is that even today there are fire accidents that occur due to poor lighting products. However, there are some ways in which this can be reduced. They include the following.


Ensure the LED raw materials used are of high quality


The technological progress has always been very good in innovation in the field of lighting. The LED lighting overturns the traditional lighting and thus as the time goes by the existing market will also change. All the LED lighting products require special treatment due to their thermal features in the lamp structure. This mostly involves safety as well as anti-electricity. In order to match the current market, there has been wide application of the high optical density and high-power LED lighting product. The heat structure of both the metal and non-radiator heat sink selection has been made more flexible.


The most common causes of the LED lighting products for fire include the following. The first one is improper use of the LED lamps. This is whereby the LED lamps are used inappropriately and thus the performance is not as expected by the manufacturer. This occurs especially in the embedded lamps which are mostly used in ceiling when they come in contact with wires and other insulation materials. This easily causes sparks.


The second one is selection of inappropriate heat sink material of the LED lamp. Currently, it is affected by the market demand due to low cost and the widely used plastic materials such as the heat sink as well as power supply housing. 


The other one is the LED lighting power problems. This is due to low power factor when building a big area in the unit using a low power factor LED lamps. The lead wire is usually too large and thus when the temperatures rises leads to circuit of buildings cited patient safety. In the power circuit as well as electronic component selection, creepage distances and electrical spacing result to short circuit which is caused by fire hazards of the electronic components.


The best thing about the above causes is that they can have a good technical solution. To prevent fire, the manufacturers are nowadays dealing with wide range of product evaluation and testing such as scattering pieces of construction and materials, LED spacing, mounting position and housing category. An example is that in China there are three certification and export overseas UL and CE certification for the LED lighting products.


Generally, the current risks if these products are due to poor quality and bad selection of materials. Therefore, all the manufacturers should keep in mind about the LED raw materials to use in order to help prevent these fire risks.
